Good Luck

Some advice:
Section A
SPEND NO MORE THAN 55 MINS ON THIS SECTION
Watch the time; spend 10 mins max on Qu a, 15 mins max on Qu b and 15 mins max on qu C
Spend 3-5 mins planning each answer.
Keep your plan open as you're writing so you can add to it.

Section B - 48 marks
CHOOSE THE ESSAY CAREFULLY - NDM OR REPRESENTATION - THINK ABOUT YOUR CASE STUDY- WHICH QUESTION WOULD IT SUIT
allow 10 mins planning time and 50 mins for writing

State your case study in the first few lines
Include plenty of examples - facts, figures & stats
Include relevant RAILING concepts and huge amounts of MEDIA LANGUAGE
Squeeze in as much relevant theory as you can

a) How does the extract hook the audience? (8 marks)

b) Do programmes like this show that TV is dumbing down to attract audiences? You may refer to other texts. (12 marks)

c) How are self-parody, irony and self-referencing used in modern texts to enhance their gratifications? You must refer to other texts (12 marks)

REPRESENTATION ESSAY – 48 marks

Either

a) Why are representations of masculinity in contemporary texts rarely straightforward? Discuss with reference to your case study.

b) Many modern media texts contain sexualised representations of young women and girls and many show an exaggerated masculinity. To what extent do you think this is true? You must refer to your case study.
