As most of you are doing advertising, I would suggest you come up with an area which allows you plenty of opportunities to bring in media effects and audience reception theory. You are not allowed to do a study based entirely on new digital media or representation.
Possible areas of advertising that you may want to investigate: Postmodernism, globalisation,Marxism, Gramsci, The Frankfurt school, "hypodermic model, cultivation theory vs uses and gratifications", audience segementation models e.g. Young and Rubicam 4C's, moral panics, health, status and hygiene, post 9/11 angst.
Try to come up with a title that allows you scope to show off.
You must start research NOW and include books, not just online material.
Keep good notes, write down key references so that you can list them as footnotes and then again in the bibliography at the end. Websites quoted must include URL and date accessed.
