From the essays you are doing, the main feedback is as follows:
Do a plan
choose a main area of focus (case-study) and refer to it in the intro
use the PEE (+TL) principle -Point example explain + Theory + Link to title
This is an extract from a top grade essay :
"It is clear that sites such as Facebook create a virtual community of users, helping to unify fragmented audiences and strengthening a sense of collective identity. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs shows the importance of social needs and this is further extended in Blumler & Katz's Uses & Gratifications Model of audience reception. The problem with the U & G model is that it states the obvious. Of course everyone chooses media for their own purposes and pleasures.
In my opinion, Adorno and the Frankfurt school provide a more interesting view, pointing out as early as the 1950's that the culture industries were actually stifling individuality, creating a dumbed down mass audience who could be easily manipulated by hegemonic groups (government, media industry and moguls etc). New media help to promote individualism but in many ways this individuality is false because the choices available to audiences are in reality not as wide as they seem. Profit is the main goal for the media industry and audiences are easily manipulated by this consumerism agenda"
